Rainforest Chuncho Lodge

Reception at the airport and transportation to Chuncho Lodge Office. Please before your arrival we recommend to pack what you gonna need for one night, leave at our office your belongings we will take care of them.
Some information about the excursion then You will start a 2 hours car trip to the Tambopata river ( 48 km. pave road and 18 km. dirt road) then 10 minutes to get to the Lodge (lunch on the way).
During the trip into the heart of the Tambopata Reserve we will be able to observe clouds of butterflies, while groups of birds pass over the car and animals such as agouti paca can be observed this is a rodent. Reception and accommodation at CHUNCHO LODGE.
After accommodation you will have an introductory walk to the jungle and the opportunity to visit the 40 meter canopy tower, from there it offers unrivalled views of the Rainforest.
Our guides will lead you on a trail to get the tower and climb its steps. Finally, you reach the top. There, you’ll be able to see miles of pristine forest stretching in every direction. Because animals are most active in the canopy, you’ll have incredible chances to see wildlife. In this unforgettable experience, you’ll be awed by the intimate views of treetop animals, paired with the sweeping panorama of the jungle.
In the night we will go on night walk to understand rainforest ecosystems and see some of the amazing trees, many animals such as colorful frogs, maybe snakes, spiders like tarantulas and many other animals active in the night, this activity is very safe and great opportunity for macro photos.
Return to the lodge for dinner. Sleep at CHUNCHO LODGE. Meals: Lunch and Dinner.

Early wake up at 4:30 a.m. to start with our 1:30-minute journey upstream in Tambopata river to the Macaw Clay Lick “El Chuncho” in Tambopata National Reserve. We will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural sceneries and wildlife of the riverbanks. At our arrival, we’ll set a breakfast and then we will be ready to observe one of the greatest wildlife spectacles where hundreds of parrots and different species of macaws gather to eat clay, first the parrots , mealy parrot, blue headed, orange check, dusky headed, white eyed and them the large macaws like the blue and yellow, red and green, scarlet macaw, this is an unforgettable experience.
In the middle morning we return to the lodge to take a rest to relax or enjoy the facilities and the surroundings of CHUNCHO LODGE. Lunch at the lodge
Then we will cross the river to get our car and return to Puerto Maldonado and drive you through the city to the boat dock on the Tambopata River. Here we board a motorized canoe and head towards the nearby confluence of the mighty Madre de Dios River, the source of the Amazon tributary. Just 30 minutes down river is landing at the port that will lead to Sandoval Lake.

We walk a trail of 3 Km (2 mi), stopping to watch birds and butterflies, up to a narrow canal boats. From there, we navigate the flooded forest of palm trees that leads to the open waters of this peaceful lake. Our crew will row the boats across to the lodge (motors are prohibited on the lake). Under the surface of the lake we may see the huge Paiche (an Amazonian fish that can weigh up to 100Kg/220lbs). Or you may hear strange and unsettling screams and see heads peering from the lake surface, which will mark our first encounter with Pteronura brasiliensis, the Giant Otter of the Amazon.

After a brief rest, we start again by boat to explore the entire eastern end of the lake, following the sound of hundreds of Blue-and-Yellow and Red-Breasted Macaws as they return to the palm forest for the night. Our view from the boat often allows close and extensive encounters with birds and mammals. In Sandoval Lake the Capuchin Monkey, in particular, has nearly lost its fear of humans.

We return to the lodge at dusk for dinner. Afterwards we take the boat again, in search of caimans, which are now extremely rare in the Amazon, but are still common in this protected lake. They grow up to 4m long, and dispute their share of fishing with the otters. On clear nights we go by boat farther into the lake for a view of the vast southern sky, unobstructed, with its magnificent views of constellations and the Milky Way. Just before dawn we will be on the lake for what is often a spectacular sunrise; and hope for an encounter with the Giant Otters that roam the lake in a close-knit family, very active at this time of day. At this time most of the birds that inhabit the lake are also very active. There will be time and tranquility to observe the birds fishing; while they stalk and capture prey. We will also have close-up views of the primitive Shansho (Ophistocumus hoazin) eating leaves.

After enjoying a late breakfast, we’ll walk the trail through the cool understory of the impressive primary rainforest that surrounds the lake. We will see the great Chestnut trees that abound here.

After lunch we rest for an hour and then explore the west side of the lake where we will have chances to observe different species of monkey; including the most common Capuchin Monkey.

Before dinner there is a video presentation on the Peruvian Jungle and after dinner we will have the opportunity to spot caimans in the lake. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts.

Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia.

After breakfast we make a final paddle through palm swamps on the west end of the lake. On the clearer mornings a glorious sunrise and its reflection can be seen in the lake. We return to the once more to the Madre de Dios River and head towards Puerto Maldonado and from there on to the airport. Meals: Breakfast
